Natural Gas Prices +75%; Largest 3 Day Gain in History-Snow Storm, Iran or OPEC+?

Natural Gas prices (Feb 2026 Futures (NG=F)) have now climbed 75% in the previous three days; a record.

Certainly the coming snow storm and frigid temperatures coming this weekend for much of the United States has something to do with the meteoric rise in the commodities’ price. But there could be something else influencing the increase.

Gerald Celente at Trends In The News today reports:

…’Peter Orszag, CEO of Lazard and former Treasury Secretary under Barack Obama, told CNBC on Wednesday that “something big” is going to happen in Iran over the next few days, indicating that the U.S. will carry out a new attack, and may be using Greenland as a distraction.’…(Trends In The News 1/22/26)

In addition to the Iran situation, oilprice.com reports yesterday that Trump’s Energy Agenda Is Starting to Collide With Itself:

…’Energy dominance is harder in a crowded global market, with LNG exports increasingly tied to Europe and crude oil facing stiff competition from OPEC+ and others.’…(oilprice.com)

IMHO, if the storm is the sole cause of price increase in the Natural Gas prices, then we may very well be able to chalk up the rise to seasonal issues. But if indeed Mr. Orszag is correct, then the additional pressure of military action is influencing the level of the commodity. That and the additional competition from OPEC+ (that may be just one more precipitating contributor as an underlying reason for war) in the LNG market may have a greater and longer lasting impact on the price action leaving US consumers paying much more when heating their homes.
