The newest villain in season 11 of TWD is Pope, a maniac who burns someone to death in front of his entire group. Pope is portrayed to be a God fearing man ala Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’ kind of way.
Pope leads a group of US Veterans of Afghanistan experience in the world of TWD. Pope puts Daryl Dixon, who found an old flame (who just happened to have some new friends) literally through a twisted test of fire to prove that Dixon is worthy to become part of The Reapers, Pope’s cultic group.
At least one entertainment reviewer has labeled Pope’s group as a Psychotic Christian Militia. The writer goes on to call them a ‘hardcore Christian cult of mercs’. Let me just say that if you are in a cult, it isn’t Christian and if you are a true Christian who confesses his/her sins, repents and trusts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior you most likely are not going to find yourself in a cult, even in the end times.
Do you think that this is just happenstance? Do you think that the creators of TWD just pulled this character/group out of thin air on a whim? Isn’t it interesting that the veterans of Afghanistan are a subject on one of the biggest shows on television just when Afghanistan is arguably the biggest story in the news?
Can it be an accident that that in the world of TWD, God fearing veterans of Afghanistan are now portrayed as those to be feared while Daryl Dixon is portrayed as the ‘white hat’ while openly denying belief in God? Everything on the screen you see was very carefully planned out, frame by frame, for you to consume and buy into.
I have been blessed beyond measure and privileged to know members of the military who served our country by being ‘in country’. Encouraging Angels is currently looking for opportunities to minister to disabled US veterans of this and other theaters of war. We would look to be a blessing to them and we already know that we would be blessed in doing so.
Do the creators of TWD think so little of our veterans that the role of Christian US war Veterans in season eleven is that of a ‘psychotic Christian Militia’? Our veterans of foreign war deserve so much more. Since this story line was not part of the graphic comic book novels, this is apparently some sort of psyop the enemies of this country are using to influence the large TWD fan base at a time when the USA is divided on so many levels. I think that if AMC were inundated by email from families of veterans and Gold Star families about their thoughts of the portrayal of the fighting men and women they might start worrying about the income from their advertisers as Americans decide that supporting AMC in any manner is antithetical to what they have devoted their lives to.
